For years A.I.M. has provided food and medical care to those in need
in Rocky Point, Mexico. We have longed for the day when we could
better impact the cycle of poverty experienced by so many families
in this city. We have looked for ways to help them have the means to
provided for themselves. It has been our dream to do more than
simply visit the city once a month...That day has come!
A.I.M. is currently building a community center in
Rocky Point, called La Esperanza Para Nueva Vida (Hope for a New
Life) Community Center. This center will provide day care,
vocational training a medical and dental clinic staffed with doctors
and dentists from Mexico and the U.S. and other services to provide
for medical needs on a regular basis.
Initial Steps
In 2006 we setup a non-profit corporation and setup committees to
design and build the center. We also received initial monetary
donations which allowed us to purchase land in Rocky Point.
Serving the Community
The center will include:
-
Day Care: Offering mothers a
safe place for their children, allowing them to work and better
support themselves.
-
Medical Clinic: Provides
free medical care in memory of Dr. Egeu Barreta's many years of
service to the poor in Mexico.
-
Dental Clinic: Offering free
dental care, a very big need in Rocky Point.
-
Food Kitchen: Distribution of
food as needed on a daily basis.
-
Vocational Training: English
as a second language, sewing and other training will improve job
opportunities
-
Library: Books of all types
open to the neighborhood
-
Family counseling and prayer:
Available to all!
Staffing and Financing
A director from Rocky Point has been identified to lead the
administration of the facility and it's services. The center will be
staffed by local people, which will provide a source of income for
their families. Funding will come from sources in the USA and
Mexico. Revenue will also be generated from the day care (mothers
will pay a modest fee as they are able).
